BAOS teamed up with the Association of Dental Implantology (@adidentaluk) for a study day aimed at soft tissue grafting and ridge preservation for Oral Surgery trainees across the country!

Organised by our previous trainee rep, Dr Alex Orchard, this tailored event for OS Trainees highlighted enhancing soft tissue aesthetics and preserving alveolar ridges, combining cutting-edge theories with hands-on practical skills!

Safe to say, the day was success for all 🎉 Our president elect, Dr Rhian Jones, also dropped in on the fun!

As an organisation, we want to support our trainees, as future Oral Surgeons, to be able to provide the best possible care for patients

Meet our new regional representative for London - Neelam Rathod!

“My name is Neelam Rathod and I am an Oral Surgery Registrar based at King’s College Hospital with rotation at Guy’s Hospital.

Previously as a Specialty doctor, Clinical tutor, Leadership fellow, Tier 2 provider and now a trainee in oral surgery, I have a good understanding of the clinical goals and challenges faced by clinicians involved in oral surgery, both in primary, secondary and tertiary care. As a leadership fellow, I have participated in enhancing oral surgery services and organising regional teaching.

As your regional representative and an enthusiastic educationalist, I am keen to support fellow clinicians in enhancing their knowledge within oral surgery.”

In 2018, I graduated from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and subsequently completed three years of Dental Core Training across London and Birmingham. Following this, I spent a year as a staff grade in Oral Surgery, before commencing Speciality Training in Oral Surgery in September 2023. Having previously been appointed as the BAOS Junior representative, I am delighted to be appointed as your Deputy Trainee Representative in 2024

Whether you are already involved in Oral Surgery teaching and would like to pick up some top teaching tips and educational credence or just starting you career and wish to gain some educational knowledge and skills for the future, this is the course for you. All are welcome, from consultants to DCTs!

The course is very practical with examples and techniques related to Oral Surgery used throughout. The Course Tutors include Pippa Blacklock who is a Specialist Oral Surgeon working in secondary care and who has a Masters in clinical education and is actively involved with teaching and training for Oral Surgery and Dental professionals and Pat Dollard who is an educator involved in teaching and training of undergraduate teachers, clinicians taking certificates in clinical education and has had career as a Head Teacher!
