East Midlands Regional Representative for BAOS
I have been practicing Oral Surgery/Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in hospital setting almost 20 years since finishing my surgical training under the RCS Edinburgh and becoming a member of Oral Surgery.
Guiding junior dentists to make the right choices for them has always been part of my practice. I take great pleasure from seeing more and more dentists opting to pursue a fulfilling career in Oral Surgery and proud to have been part of the process.
I have been awarded Fellowship of Dental Surgery of the RCS Edinburgh in 2015, completed a Master’s degree in Craniofacial Trauma Reconstruction from QMUL in 2019 before being elected a regional representative of BAOS for East Midlands in 2022.
Harpreet Ark
Harpreet Ark qualified as a Dentist from the University of Birmingham in 2008. On completion of vocational training she pursued her interest in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. During this time, she gained her Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2012.
Harpreet works on a part-time basis as a Speciality Doctor within the Oral and Maxillofacial Department at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. Additionally, she is an accredited Tier 2 minor oral surgery performer in primary care. For the remainder of the week she works as a General Dental Practitioner in Leicestershire.
Harpreet has been an approved Educational Supervisor for Foundation Dentists since 2018. With a passion for teaching and a keen interest in education, she completed her Master’s Degree in Medical Education from the University of Nottingham in 2020.
Harpreet additionally sits as a Fitness to Practice panellist for the General Dental Council
Neelam Rathod
My name is Neelam Rathod and I am an Oral Surgery Registrar based at King’s College Hospital with rotation at Guy’s Hospital.
Previously as a Specialty doctor, Clinical tutor, Leadership fellow, Tier 2 provider and now a trainee in oral surgery, I have a good understanding of the clinical goals and
challenges faced by clinicians involved in oral surgery, both in primary, secondary and tertiary care. As a leadership fellow, I have participated in enhancing oral surgery services and organising regional teaching.
As your regional representative and an enthusiastic educationalist, I am keen to support fellow clinicians in enhancing their knowledge within oral surgery.
Dr Tarun Nagpal
London Regional Representative

Tarun qualified from Kings College London Dental School in 2016 and has since committed his career towards the field of Oral Surgery. Tarun currently works as a speciality registrar in Bedfordshire NHS trust after completing all of his previous work in London and Surrey. Alongside his passion for Oral surgery, he has a keen interest in behavioural and pharmacological management of anxious patients.
Tarun has a keen interest in postgraduate education to further his knowledge and incorporating worldwide techniques within his practice which has led him to travel to many countries for his training including Germany, Belgium, Canada and UAE. He is currently completing a Diploma in Implants whilst in his specialty program.
Tarun prides himself in being open and approachable to both patients and colleagues. He as well as his fellow Rep Sarah are always available for any Members that wish to discuss items related to his role as regional representative for the Greater London region.
Farida Chasma
I am a recently appointed Oral Surgery Specialty Registrar in the Northumbria post. I am currently based at the Newcastle Dental Hospital, where I am part of a multi-disciplinary team, involved in providing streamlined effective care to a large patient demographic.
I have previously worked in the North West in neighbouring specialties, supporting my understanding of the remit of Oral Surgery.
Away from work I like to stay active doing yoga and pilates as well as exploring the countryside.
Ushmita Johar
BDS, MFDS RCPS (Glasgow), LDS RCS (Eng)
I am a Gulbarga University (India) graduate, having obtained my degree in 1999. I have been fortunate to work with various Oral Surgeons in India. In 2004, I embarked on my professional journey in the United Kingdom and was able to gain diverse experience by working in many hospitals across England.
Currently, I serve as a Specialty Doctor at the OMFS in James Cook University Hospital, Middlesborough with a particular passion for Oral surgery that spans over 18 years of experience in the field. I have second on-call responsibilities for OMFS.
I am committed to raising the profile of Oral surgery in my region and beyond. I am enthusiastic about promoting and making awareness among healthcare professionals and to support the aspiring Oral Surgeons in achieving their goals.
Other than work, I enjoy travelling and love to explore various cultures and try their local cuisine.
Dr Emmanuel Egbase
Job Role: Speciality Doctor Oral Surgery – Warrington and Halton NHS Trust, Tier 2 Oral Surgery Provider – Cheshire and Merseyside / Greater Manchester
I am a dentist based in the North-West whose practice is focused on oral surgery. I split my time between primary care as a tier 2 oral surgery provider and secondary care as an SAS doctor. This has provided me with a great work balance, and the opportunity to undertake a wide variety of procedures including surgical orthodontic procedures on pediatric patients under general anaesthetic, wisdom teeth removal under IV sedation and dental implants under local anaesthetic.
My interests outside of work involve all things rugby and Liverpool FC.
Patrick Hesketh
My name is Patrick and I’m an Oral Surgery Specialty Registrar based in University Dental Hospital of Manchester, currently in my ST1 year. Prior to specialty training, I graduated from Newcastle University in 2017 before completing dental foundation and DCT 1 and 2 jobs in London.
I then moved to the North West and worked a year in practice before an excellent DCT3 job in Oral Surgery at Liverpool Dental Hospital and then progressing onto my current post.
In Manchester my training encompasses both secondary care, where there is a large provision of implants within our Oral Surgery department, and primary care. This gives me a good perspective of Oral Surgery in different settings.
Outside of work I enjoy cooking and music.
Jonathan Liew
I am Jonathan Liew, a Specialty Registrar in Yorkshire and Humber region.
I am currently based in Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds. I am also a bank staff in North Wales Intermediate Tier Oral Surgery and Emergency Dental Service. My job therefore spans across primary and secondary care settings where I thoroughly enjoy the hustle and bustle of Oral Surgery life. It is hard work at times but I find these challenges satisfying and fulfilling.
I look forward to working with fellow BAOS Members, providing the Members high quality, informative study sessions in the months to come!
Sylwia Nowak
Hi! I am Sylwia Nowak, an Oral Surgery Specialty Trainee in Yorkshire & Humber, currently based in Wakefield.
I am delighted to be appointed as the Regional Rep.
My training includes a three-year rotation through Dental and District General Hospitals within Yorkshire providing me with extensive and varied Oral Surgery practice. I regularly engage in and deliver post-graduate and under-graduate teaching.
My interests include sedation and research into bone modifying agents.
Outside of work, I am an adventurous chef, enjoy travelling and music. I look forward to collaborating with the Association to promote Oral Surgery education both locally and nationally.
Christine Causey
My name is Christine Causey and I work in a primary care Oral Surgery practice in Northern Ireland. I qualified from Queen’s University Belfast in 2012 and have since worked in both SHO and staff grade roles in Maxillofacial Departments in Northern Ireland, England, and Wales. I completed my specialty training in 2012.
At present, my job in a primary care oral surgery practice involves undertaking oral surgery procedures under both LA and conscious sedation. I also maintain a role in education of dental students who attend the practice as part of their undergraduate teaching in their third and forth year. I am delighted to be appointed regional rep and look forward to using my role to continue to promote Oral Surgery education and development in Northern Ireland.
Rebekah Milligan
My name is Rebekah, and I’m an Oral Surgery Registrar based in Belfast at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
I graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2018 and have spent my Dental Core Training years working across Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery units in Northern Ireland, and the past 18 months I’ve focused developing my Oral Surgery skills within a LAS Oral Surgery position.
I’ve completed my PgCert in Clinical Education and my job role within the University Teaching Hospital involves regular undergraduate teaching.
I am delighted to be one of your BAOS Northern Ireland Regional Representatives!
Nicholas Rawlings
Hi I’m Nick, I have taken an interest in Oral Surgery after completing DCT placements in Oral Surgery at the Royal School of Dentistry in Belfast and OMFS at Altnagelvin Hospital.
I am excited to work with Meera Pajpani (fellow Northern Ireland Regional Representative) to help grow the Oral Surgery network in Northern Ireland.
Callum Wemyss
Hello, I am a Specialty Registrar in Oral Surgery and Honorary Clinical Teacher based at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School. I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2015 and started my specialty training in 2020. I am about to go out of programme to undertake a Scottish Clinical Leadership Fellowship.
I have previously been the Trainee Representative on Council for the British Association of Oral Surgeons and I am looking forward to the role as one of the Scottish Regional Representatives.
My interests lie in tissue regeneration and bone augmentation for dental implantology and patient safety and clinical Human Factors.
Alison Wright
I currently work as a part time Consultant in Oral Surgery based in Dundee Dental Hospital, where I treat patients under LA, conscious sedation and GA. I also enjoy working as a specialist in an Oral Surgery referral practice in Fife, as well as treating patients referred to the Public Dental Service in Perth.
As part of my role, I regularly teach undergraduates and am a Clinical Supervisor and Educational Supervisor for Dental Core Trainees and Specialty Registrars.
Outside of work I have been known to dabble in yoga and – when the weather is good – paddle boarding!
Sinthujan Sivarajah

I qualified from Barts and The London, School of Medicine & Dentistry (London) in 2016. I worked in dental practice for a year before my interests grew in dental and oral surgery.
To prepare me for this specialty, I worked in hospitals training at Oral and Maxillofacial Departments. I spent a year training in a large trauma hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham and followed this with more hands-on oral surgery experience at Queen’s Hospital, London.
By 2018 I had completed my examinations in the Membership to the Faculty of Dental Surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
I further consolidated my desire to continue with oral surgery and began my postgraduate certification at UCL in Dental Sedation in 2019. Currently I am continuing with general dentistry and in the process of attaining my master’s degree in Dental Implantology from Bristol University to widen my scope of practice within surgery, due to complete in 2024.
Karishma Bhatia
I am a Specialty Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal United Hospital Bath. My role largely entails providing a range of oral surgery services for adult and paediatric patients within the locality.
I work closely with our orthodontic and oncology colleagues. I particularly enjoy teaching and am involved in training dental core trainees, have taught within conferences and courses, and supervised undergraduate dental students.
Rachel Loke
My name is Rachel Loke, an Oral Surgery Specialty Registrar based in Plymouth.
Prior to specialty training, I graduated from King’s College London in 2018, completing foundation and core training jobs across the South East, South West and West Midlands.
I work in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at Derriford Hospital, a teaching hospital and major trauma centre, developing skills across the full scope of Oral Surgery under local and general anaesthetic. I have a particular interest in conscious sedation which I perform in a community setting.
Outside of work I am a keen climber, taking every opportunity to explore outdoor climbing in the South West.
Pippa Barnes
My name is Pippa Barnes, and I am currently working as a specialty doctor in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Newport.
I love working in the department, and it was here that I first developed my enthusiasm for oral surgery.
I have lived in Wales for ten years, having moved to Cardiff to study dentistry in 2013.
Outside of work, I like trail running and play hockey competitively for a local team. I also enjoy gardening and spending time with my two cats, Ella and Boo. I am excited to fulfil my new role as Wales Representative with Grace.
Grace Clancy
Hi everyone, my name is Grace Clancy and I am delighted to be one of your BAOS Wales Regional Representatives alongside Pippa.
Wales has been home to me for 10 years since I started my dental training in Cardiff in 2013, and I am now pleased to be working as a Specialty Doctor in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Prince Charles Hospital where I have been expanding my Oral Surgery interest and skills for the last 2 and half years.
Aside from this, I greatly enjoy sewing and spending time outdoors running or visiting the coast with family and friends.
Emma Houlston
I’m Emma Houlston and am currently undertaking Oral Surgery Specialty Training at Birmingham Dental Hospital having previously worked as a Specialty Doctor at Worcester Hospital.
I have experience of Oral Surgery services in the primary, secondary and teaching hospital settings. I especially enjoy the challenges in holistic management of medically compromised and anxious patients.
Education is an interest of mine and I have completed a PG Cert in Medical Education and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I enjoy my formal role as clinical supervisor of undergraduate students as well as undertaking teaching sessions with my colleagues.

I qualified from Royal London Hospital in 1995 and have 27 years clinical experience, in Maxillofacial Units, Special Care dental units and general practice. I hence have knowledge of all aspects of healthcare service delivery provisions in the primary and secondary sectors. I have worked in several different teams as a team player, as a lead and clinical tutor. I have been a commissioned provider for the Emergency Dental Services. I have taught in Dental Hospitals, in Cardiff and Birmingham, working with undergraduate students, therapists, and nurses. I value clinical support systems, teaching and training with colleagues.
I feel my experiences will enable me to contribute back to the profession in active effective role. I have the commitment and the mindset to be an advocate for our profession.
