Specialty Registrar (Oral Surgery) | National Trainee Representative

 Alex Orchard is a Specialty Registrar (StR) in Oral Surgery in London at King’s College Dental Institute and Guys Hospital.

He graduated from the University of Leeds in 2015 and his UK training includes Dental Foundation Training followed by Core Training (DCT1 & DCT2) in Oral Surgery & Maxillofacial Surgery in Bristol Royal Infirmary and The Royal London Hospital gaining exposure to oral cancer and major trauma. Over this training, he also worked in various dental specialties including Oral Medicine, Orthodontics and Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology.

Alex began his Higher Speciality Training in Oral Surgery in 2021 at Guys & St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust and prior to this he worked as an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Specialty Doctor for three years at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

He has a keen interest in third molar surgery (wisdom teeth), jaw cysts and dental implantology. Alex was awarded a Distinction in his Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Sedation at Kings College London and he has a special interest in the use of Conscious Sedation to help patients with their pain and anxiety.

Alex also holds an RCS Edinburgh Ambassador role supporting Early Career Dentists. He is honoured to represent the views of Oral Surgery trainees nationally and help share educational opportunities relevant for specialist oral surgery training.
